Hornsjo, a Small Alpine Village

They met me at the Lillehammer railway station at night and drove to the place – a small village in the mountains behind the boom. A few summer barns and one hotel – that’s Hornsjo, a small alpine village above Lillehammer in Norway.

The road was about to be closed due to the snowstorm and we barely managed it with chains and stops for grabbing snow from the windscreen and lights.

It is the right place for those looking for snow.

My volunteering was making a promotional movie for the Institute. Skiing, swimming, sauna and table tennis were in addition.

I won a big Teddy Bear in a local tennis tournament. I can smash the whole day missing either the table or the ball but the next day I hit both. So probably it was the next day. Now I carry this “key ring” with me.

Bear Bear

Bear Bear

Firstly, it’s my space keeper. I put my Bear Bear on the airplane on the seat next to mine and nobody asks to free it. Secondly, my Bear Bear always and everywhere has a special welcome and… me with him. Thirdly, it’s a light and worm pillow/blanket.

My Norway tale lasted for a month, then I moved to Sweden village, for another month.

From journalism and car racing in Russia to teaching at the University in South Africa, where she won Alliance de France and the British Consulate international photo contests, she switched paths: earned a silver medal at the 2011 World Masters Athletics USA, hiked the 2,081-mile Appalachian Trail, navigated the Amazon from Peru to Brazil, biked Route 66 from Chicago to LA, from London to Orkney, and from Canada to Key West, and launched an art project at Midcoast Maine. During lockdown drove to Olympic Valley Palisades Tahoe where became a ski and swim instructor, then… well, enough for now.
