Game changer

Joining Cyclists’ Hospitality Network

On the 1st of April 2015 I flew to Chicago for cycling Bicycle Route 66 to the West and TransAmerican Trail to the East and joined cyclists’ hospitality network.

News – AirBerlin confused everything something during my 3-days flight from Johannesburg to Chicago. Better news – it became obvious in Abu-Dhabi airport which I like. They respect passengers. So they respected my offer to leave me alone in business launch and to land me in Chicago when they have chance. Actually no matter when as I didn’t stressed when (if) my bicycle trip starts. Till that I would enjoy their spa, buffet and Macs Pro with big diagonal. So I did.

Another news once landed in Chicago – they messed up my backpack (with somebody’s suitcase?!). Better news – they delivered it the next day to my door so I absorbed the centre of Chicago without it. Well, the door wasn’t really mine as I stayed at John’s apartment. In fact they brought it in midnight, not in the midday, but John didn’t mind. That what he told. John was a math teacher at school and the lucky one in Chicago hosted me through cyclists’ network. That how I learned about parallel travelling world and started enjoying it.

Chicago is madly beautiful. All spaces around and between skyscrapers are walkable and pedestrian friendly.

It happened that my bike delivery to the shop just out of Chicago South would take 10 days instead of 2. To not make John happier with staying 10 days than he already was with previous 2 I took a bus ride to Tennessee to be back to Chicago in 10 days. Damascus Trail Days 2015 were happening there next weekend and I still remember how exciting was this event in 2014 when I hiked the Appalachian Trail.

From journalism and car racing in Russia to teaching at the University in South Africa, where she won Alliance de France and the British Consulate international photo contests, she switched paths: earned a silver medal at the 2011 World Masters Athletics USA, hiked the 2,081-mile Appalachian Trail, navigated the Amazon from Peru to Brazil, biked Route 66 from Chicago to LA, from London to Orkney, and from Canada to Key West, and launched an art project at Midcoast Maine. During lockdown drove to Olympic Valley Palisades Tahoe where became a ski and swim instructor, then… well, enough for now.
