Caledonian Canal

Caledonia Way. Loch Ness

Caledonia Way goes on Great Glen Ways, a very spectacular trail from Inverness to Fort Williams and further to the South. After riding along Caledonia Canals I decided that it can’t be anything better then that and even didn’t go to Northern Island to save the impression.

Inverness to Fort William Along the East Shoe

At the edge of Inverness Caledonia Way splits: one way goes to the right side of Loch Ness, another goes to the left. Going left is much, much better, I’ve got an opportunity to compere after by car. Click spots on the map to open photos. You probably miss a castle, but you also miss a traffic, and get the best view of Loch Ness from the desert shoe.

Loch Ness

The best view of Loch Ness is here, from Dores Inn pub.

The most cyclists I’ve met, cycled opposite direction, Northbound. They told it’s more downhill, but I felt exactly the same, going Southbound. That doesn’t really make sense, probably just for me, because after this long uphill to Fort Augustus any road looks downhill.

Fort William to Inverness Along the West Shoe

In Fort William I was rescued by driving traveller from Canada and preferred to drive a loop along the other shore of Loch Ness, to Inverness and back to Fort William, rather then stay in Fort William under the rain. No need to say all hotels/hostels were fully booked.
